... welcome to the jungle ...
Sunday, October 16, 2011 at 11:25AM Second part of the honeymoon took us to The Datai, a hotel nestled in the middle of the Langkawi jungle. Having previously visited this hotel for a daytrip a few years ago, we knew we had to come back and explore this luxurious and elegant hotel that prizes itself of being at one with nature. Secluded villas on stilts surrounded by vast jungle and towering trees, cheeky monkeys on the balcony, incredibly knowledgable naturists, hermit crabs on the beach, not to mention the best pastry chef outside of France - it really had it all! The style, the decor, the light, the detail - my Contax was positively on fire. The only regret was not having the macro lens to document the hundreds of geckos, the ghost crabs (my name for them) and the jumping spiders (yuk!) and the various other wild and wonderful bugs and creatures of this magical island. It is always so hard to edit the many hundreds of photos we took on this part of the trip, so i hope the selection gives you all a little taster of what this magnificent hotel is all about. For an alternative and yet super luxe setting, combined with a beach that felt untouched by nature, this is a hotel that has to be seen to be believed.

Wow, the place is so exquisite. The photos you took just shouts on how gorgeous The Datai is. Is that the restaurant beside the bedroom photo? How many hours is it from the city?
Thanks Halley, yes that is the legendary thai fusion restaurant they have on site - the drunken prawns were divine! And its about 45 mins from the airport, not sure how long from the local town.
