... monkey golf ...
Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 7:59PM As the husb is now officially obsessed with golf, during our trip to The Datai he persuaded me to join him at the adjoining Datai Golf Club, where monkeys and monitor lizards roam freely on the jungle-like course! As I have about as much interest in golf as watching paint dry, I agreed on being his caddy as long as I could take photos uninterrupted - he knew it was the only way, so happy as larry I took my Contax and a huge bag of film and off we went for our mini adventure. It was all so wild and prehistoric, I couldnt help but imagine that this is what it would be like to be transported back in time millions of years ago... with some golf clubs! Dinosaurs missing, the closest we came to being scared was when a troupe (?) of cheeky brown monkeys silently dropped out of a nearby tree and started approaching the golf cart, with the alpha male eyeing me and my camera up with a somewhat ominous stare. I resisted being bullied by him for as long as possible (about a minute!) and when he got to about 10m of the cart, I released the break and hightailed it out of there ruining the husb's LAST shot - I was not popular that afternoon! :) The monkeys you see in the second shot are what I call reverse-panda monkeys, and unlike their naughty counterparts, are very tame and generally avoid humans. Enjoy! xxx
